In the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses recounts the story of the Israelites, from the Exodus to the Revelation at Sinai to the journey through the wilderness. Why does Moses retell these well-known events? And what can his final testament teach us about monotheism, power, ritual, politics, law, and more? In this online course, Professor Micah Goodman helps make sense of one of the most important and influential books in the Torah. In eight engrossing lectures, you will:
Find out why Moses retold the entire story of the Exodus and wandering through the desert, and what he sought to accomplish in his final speech.

Discover how Moses’s account differs from the Torah’s original telling, and learn what these differences suggest about Moses and the tradition he was seeking to establish.

Learn about the Hebrew Bible's understanding of kingship, power, and religion’s relationship to politics.

Immerse yourself in the religious and political revolutions that Deuteronomy seeks to create.
